The Citywide Groundwater Emergency Taskforce was formed as a citizens group in 2002 to draw attention to the severe groundwater problems initially understood to be confined primarily to the Boston landfill neighborhoods of:

• Back Bay • Bay Village • Chinatown
• Fenway • South End • Beacon Hill Flats

Increased monitoring of groundwater levels now shows the problem of groundwater insufficiency and instability extends beyond these boundaries, and may include:

• Leather District • Fort Point Channel • Faneuil Hall Area
• Waterfront • Bullfinch Triangle • Charlestown
• North End • East Boston

Citywide GET has formed a coalition of neighborhood and civic associations across the city to work closely with city and state agencies, authorities and elected officials to address this urgent problem.  Citywide GET endorses a three-part program of monitor, repair, and prevention for effective, long-term groundwater management.
